Héloïse Bossard Creates Amazing Paper Cut-Outs

The simplest tools can sometimes produce the most complex and amazing art. Paper is something that’s available to all of us, yet it’s rare to see someone turning it into something this wonderful. Héloïse Bossard is a paper cut-out artist and a former architect, who creates work inspired by different things. One of her latest pieces was inspired by Hokusai’s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa.

Here it is, a wave made of paper, inspired by the Great Wave from Hokusai. It will be on display this week-end at @julieauzillon 's studio, among several original paper cuts. “Always in love with paper, it was on her return to France after two years spent in Japan that Heloise Bossard decided to create Au Détour du Papier,” we read on her website. Bossard fell in love with the Japanese art of cutting paper, Kirigami, so much that she can’t imagine doing anything else.

Remember the video process I posted 10 days ago? This is what the final artwork looks like! It's a commission I made to celebrate the new decade of two sisters who are respectively 80 and 70 years old. They picked snail as their "totem animal", as a souvenir of their youth when they organized snail race with their 5 other brothers and sister. Smaller snails represents their children… can you spot them all? Although it's been a real challenge (and a stressful one!) to paint the paper cut after it was finished, I really loved working on this commission! Thank you for your trust ladies! //. //. Vous vous souvenez de la vidéo que j'ai posté il y a une dizaine de jours ? Et bien voici le résultat final ! Il s'agit d'une commande privée pour célébrer la nouvelle dizaine de deux sœurs, l'ainée maintenant octogénaire et la "petite dernière" septuagénaire. Elles apparaissent ici sous forme d'escargots (souvenirs des nombreuses courses d'escargots de leur enfance), entourées de leurs cinq frères et sœur, de leurs enfants, et de fleurs ou lieux qui leur sont chers. Ça a été un petit challenge (et surtout stressant !) de devoir peindre chaque escargot d'une couleur différente après la découpe, mais je suis fière de l'avoir fait et j'ai beaucoup aimé travailler sur cette commande ! I've been working on small (and affordable) paper cuts to put under the Christmas tree lately. Some are already available on my Etsy shop (link in bio) and some will be on sale exclusively during my next markers market. //. //. En ce moment je travaille sur des petits découpages à mettre au pied du sapin ou directement dans son salon ! Do you remember Hector, the black bear I cut earlier this year? Well, I did a lot of cyanotypes this summer: some paper cuts didn't turn out so well but this one was a success! "Midnight bath" is now listed on my Etsy shop! There are only 11 cyanotypes of this cute bathing bear (each copy is numbered and signed with an embossing stamp) so don't wait for too long to make it yours or give it as a Christmas present! Et bien cet été, j'ai testé un certain nombre de mes papiers découpés pour en faire des cyanotypes, et si certains n'ont pas été de francs succès, d'autres comme celui-ci ont dépassé mes espérances ! "Bain de Minuit" est maintenant dispo dans ma boutique Etsy, et j'en aurais 2-3 à la vente de fin d'année chez @julieauzillon.
