Japanese artist Akie Nakata takes her inspiration from Mother Nature herself. Her lifelike images, mostly of animals, aren’t painted on canvas, not even paper, but on small stones and pebbles.
Nakata enjoyed collecting pretty stones ever since she was a young girl. But she actually started painting on them in 2011, after she found a stone in a river bank, that reminded her of a rabbit.
No stone is left unturned when it comes to this unique artist! In her Facebook page, Nakata explains that the stones themselves tell her their story, she simply gives them their life.
According to Nakata, she chooses stones that already resemble animals. She then paints on them, using acrylic paint. The result: carefully crafted animals that look highly realistic. From birds to dogs and cats, even tiny sea horses, Nakata makes sure each of her creations stands on its own.
