Marcus Oakley’s Illustrations Have a Tactile Quality to Them

Scotland-based graphic artist and illustrator Marcus Oakley makes delightful illustrations that have a naive quality to them. His playfulness comes across quite naturally, with his character illustrations full of spunk and zest.

Having graduated with a degree in Fine Art and Graphic Design, Oakley has worked for fashion icon Paul Smith and created his own design and illustration studio working on projects including book illustration, textile design, product design, and packaging.

With a love of crafts, his artwork has a tactile quality to it, that comes through even with his digital work. For illustration projects, Oakley usually works with a pen and a computer, while his personal projects make use of a more creative toolbox, which includes anything from cardboard and wood to hammer and nails.

“I simply enjoy the physicality of drawing and connecting one line with another and the journey of trying to visualize something that often started in my imagination,” said Oakley in an interview with aye Magazine.
