Among the questions that define people, are the preferences of cats or dogs, and in that sense, rappers are no different. Tyler The Creator, for example, is allergic to canine hair, and Kreayshawn was besotted with the Crazy Cat Lady nickname; Cee-Lo Green appeared as a judge on The Voice with a huge rescue-tuned-rental cat named Purrfect. Still, lots of rappers are staunch fans of the best friends of man.
Exactly this love uniting rap game and puppies is what the Instagram account Rappers With Puppies has chosen to highlight. The account selects snapshots of rappers with their dogs since May 2014. We can see that many have already succumbed to the charms of these little balls of fur — the page includes almost all the headliners of the American rap game, past or present, from Tupac to Wiz Khalifa through Drake, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar or Chance the Rapper and Action Bronson.
The result of this collection of shots is a display of the rap’s soft side. Beyond the aesthetic, these visuals make it possible to thwart certain stereotypes associated with the rappers’ image. Today, the rappers mostly display dogs not as deterrent weapons but as true life companions to which they devote an overflowing love. The boxers are replaced, without complex, by small Yorkshires, bichons or poodles, cradled in the arms of their masters.
Still, one question remains: Who let the dogs out?
