Sophie Heywood’s Illustration Style is Undeniably Cute

Manchester-based illustrator Sophie Heywood deserves more hype. Having graduated from the University of Central Lancashire in 2014 with a degree in illustration, she has opened her own Etsy store, where she sells prints, enamel pins, keyrings, and the likes, all made and designed by her. She also takes commissions, with selected clients including Walker Books, Arts Council England, and The Guardian.

“I feel like nowadays with social media it doesn’t feel as lonely,” Heywood shared with the Printed blog. “I’m part of a lot of online communities now and feel much more connected to my peers. I think it helps to understand that even the people you look up to are also struggling.”

A self-proclaimed nerdy gal, Heywood’s cutesy style is inspired by pop culture and animals, as well as everyday life. “I like to draw and make things,” she puts it simply in her bio shared on her website. “You’ll usually find me with a brush and ink in hand.”

She can also be found selling her merch in all kinds of places including fairs around the UK. Give this nerdy gal some love on Instagram.

It’s Day 3 of #indieweek by @justacard, and today we’re talking about community and shops. 📣 📣 📣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m very grateful to be part of some amazing local stockists here in Greater Manchester! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love being part of the @swalkcreative fam, @acuriouscollectionarts and @thewarrenstockport. Dropping off stock to these places gets me out the house and means I get to meet some really cool artists; problem is I’m always tempted by their wares. 👀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m also lucky to be stocked in other shops around the country, including @magma_mcr @handmadenotts, @flavourlikefancy , @punnydukes , @wests41 and more. 😊️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve met some amazing people through some of the FB groups I’m a member of, such as @indie_roller , @incolourfulcompany and @etsymcr. Being able to go to meet ups with like minded folk, get some amazing advice and making lasting friendships has been invaluable! 💖💖💖 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s super tough doing this small biz thing and many of us take on the role of appx 10 people on our own. But it’s all that bit easier when you have pals you can vent to and who help you keep going. 💪 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am going to shout out some of my fave small businesses on Friday! As we all know one insta post isn’t enough to tag all the amazingness, so keep an eye on my stories then for an #indiefriday sharing bonanza!! 😘😘😘 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #justacard #justacardweek #etsymcr #indierollercoaster #incolourfulcompany #wearethemakers
