]]>Elson collects driftwood and transforms it into whimsical animal sculpture in the most amazing way. By strategically placing a few pieces of scrap metals or adding some paint, a mundane plank can become a dog, and a broken wooden block gets turned into a whale.
Making art out of driftwood and discarded material isn’t new for Elson. She has been collecting old objects and giving them a new purpose for a long time, including a project in which she crafted tiny houses and idyllic scenery. But recently, she has been fully focused on her animal sculptures.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying this new path, as I can be even more playful and inject some humor into my work, which I think is a nice distraction in these troubled times,” Elson told Colossal in a recent chat.
Elson frequently shares her newest driftwood creations on social media. She also has an Etsy shop where she sells the pieces she makes. You can check out more of them by scrolling below.

]]>Ito is the owner of a store in Tosu, Japan, which specializes in watches and eyewear. After he finishes working with clients and repairing watches, Ito proceeds to focus on his hobby: making metal animal sculptures.
In his line of business, Ito often ends up with all sorts of spare parts that are headed to the trash can. So figuring there must be a way to still make them useful, this talented watchmaker started combining them to craft figurines of insects, reptiles, dogs, cats, and all sorts of other animals.
Being accustomed to working with small pieces, Ito has no trouble recreating the animals with extreme accuracy. Sometimes this requires using hundred individual pieces, but the effort surely pays off when you look at the finished product.
At first, Ito only displayed the sculptures in his shop as decoration and a way to intrigue the customers. However, after receiving countless positive reactions, he is now sharing his works on Instagram, allowing the internet to enjoy these impressive creations. Check out more of them below.

]]>This talented artist uses polymer clay to make her tiny sculptures, and she is pretty good at what she does. Despite working on small-scale figurines, she is able to successfully replicate the features of particular animals to the slightest details. This includes dogs sticking their tongues, cats curiously looking around, and baby seals enjoying ocean waves with a smile on their face.
According to the artist, everything she does, from sculpting to painting, is done by hand. She admits that she may be making an error here and there but says everything she does is with love.
“They may not be perfect, but I tried to carve into them something that is special and unique depending on the reference animal,” she shares on her website. “They are really fragile and need a lot of love from the keeper.”
Anie’s Clay animal sculptures are available for purchase through her social media, while the artist also does commission work. You can check out more of her adorable figurines below.

]]>“Creations from man-made objects discarded as refuse and reinterpreted to form objects found in nature are the inspirations for my art,” writes Lyons on his website. “The simple spoon forms the body of a rainbow trout; a discarded children’s toy becomes the foundation for a moose; horseshoes transform into armadillos.”
According to Lyons, through his inherent passion for the discarded object, he has developed a unique perspective to visually dissect, reinterpret, and then repurpose the materials found in his sculptures. Ultimately, it is the organic nature of his materials that serves as the initial inspiration for his work, lending itself to the organic figures he goes on to create.
“I look for these shapes buried within objects,” Lyons explained in a piece he published on Artsy Shark. “I then utilize these shapes and reinterpret them into the anatomical structures that make up the organic sculptures I create.” We’ve come full circle.
