]]>“Being a dancer gives you a kind of fluency in another language, in what parts of the body you emphasize, how they look, ways that they move,” she explained in an interview with CreativeFluff Magazine. “I tend to always incorporate hyperextended legs and arched feet in full-body pictures because it’s what I’m used to seeing in the studio. Being surrounded by that for so many years really shaped my view of bodies and proportions. Probably in a very unnatural way!”
A San Francisco native, Hartman works at a nonprofit by day, teaches fitness at night, and makes art in the in-betweens. “I definitely went through a lot of phases,” she says. “I read a lot of comic books as a kid; my brother and I would sit for hours reading collections passed down to us from our uncle. That influenced me for a long time and still does. I fell into more classical art and portraiture for a while, as I got more serious, and recently have found a kind of happy medium between the two.”

]]>Hiplet, a combination of Hip Hop and Ballet, was created by dance teacher Homer Bryant of the Chicago Multicultural Dance school. His goal was to take the classical, sometimes a bit outdated classical ballet and freshen it up with elements of African-American and Latino dance.
Hiplet dancers are not any less talented or skilled as classical ballerinas. In fact, all the dancers in Bryant’s dance group are classically trained and they can perform in any classical ballet. But these young dancers didn’t feel at home in classical ballet. They wanted to combine they’re own culture and passion into the centuries-old form of art.
Hiplet takes the most impressive elements of ballet and hip hop and combines them. Hiplet dancers wear pointe shoes and dance on the tip of their toes like ballerinas, but also move their entire bodies around like Hip Hop dancers. This new way to move your body is so stunning and unique, it’s just a matter of time until it takes over the dancing world.

]]>Hong Kong Ballet is celebrating 40 years of their existence and decided to mark their anniversary by creating a unique photo campaign. Design Army is the studio who made the amazing photos for their campaign in 2018 and this year they repeated their success. Along with the talented dancers from the Hong Kong Ballet, they created a wonderful videography series and photos that show the beauty of ballet. With Maurice Ravel’s Boléro playing in the back, the dancers show their skills in amazing backgrounds with eye-popping colors, using pompoms and having dance-offs that will remind you of a Kung Fu duel. You can see them jumping in a sport field and drinking wine, while in the video you’ll notice extra talented grandmas dancing like nothing can stop them.
We congratulate them on their anniversary and hope to see more!
