Centered around flora and fauna, her most recent series zooms in on the rich birdlife inhabiting grasslands. Birds such as crows, ravens, and eagles are seen throughout her work, placed against an abstract landscape that demands attention.

According to Velozo, grasslands are among our most vulnerable and endangered habitats due to urbanization. As such, she hopes that her paintings call attention to the preservation of such fragile environments. “I want to create a subconscious connection to the environment,” the Australian artist remarked. “I believe viewing a painting of nature evokes an intuitive reminder of the fragility and sacredness of the natural world.”

An award-winning artist, Tanner has mastered the art of oil painting, capturing their features in great detail (though she like to believe that it’s her attention to the birds’ inner beings that gives the painting its lifelike quality). 

Through her oil paintings, Tanner hopes to spread her love of birds, inspiring viewers to spend more time outdoors. “My goal is for the viewer to connect with the playful, human side of birds,” she relayed in a piece she wrote for Artsy Shark, “to see into their eyes and realize there is so much more than expected.”

“Birds sing, dance, fight, court, breed and fly,” she writes. “They claim territory, pair for life, play the field and fool around. They hold funerals, have socials, eat fermented berries and perform mating rituals that leave us baffled. The subject matter is endless!”

“I like it to seem calm but with a tension twist,” Bellido once stated, in an interview with Cup of Couple. “I’d love to keep that disturbing and violent perspective,” she later added.

But when it comes to the creative process itself, it’s pretty straight forward. “First I decide if I’m gonna do a correlated painting series or a single illustration, then the inspiration work comes,” she says. “I try to find pictures that help me to give shape to my idea, paint a draft (I’m not a big fan of drafts though, only the compositional ones) and then I begin to paint.”

Born in Zaragoza, Spain, Bellido moved to Cuenca to study at the Faculty of Fine Arts and later moved once again to Madrid for her Art Investigation Masters Degree. Her art can be purchased online, but you can also admire it from afar through her Instagram page.

She lives near a river, and every time she wanted to go somewhere she would look down and see a lot of stones, some more unique than others, so she got an idea. Why not take them and turn them into something new and creative – and she did! She started searching for unusual stones to try and turn them into a story.  With a little help from acrylic paints, she started creating beautiful stone animals that look so lively that you want to touch them to make sure they are not real.  

Nakata turns the stones into birds, cats, dogs and even tiny little, definitely-not-scary snakes. Her home is an entire animal kingdom and she loves it.
