Kirill Babii makes minimalistic utensils that will inspire you to get cooking. Either that or they’ll add a rustic, Nordic feel to your kitchen. Handmade from walnut and apricot tree, Babii’s utensils are meant to be both sustainable and beautiful.

“I like working with my senses,” he shared with the Etsy blog, “the materials, and the function and requirements of the piece to create the best possible combination—something that distills the very best of everything and keeps only the most necessary elements.”

He explains that sometimes good design occurs fast and coincidentally, but often it’s the result of long and hard work and much trial and error. “But it’s always so inspiring to create,” says Babii. “It’s the most valuable time in my life.”

With an emphasis on environment protection and zero-waste ethics, Babii’s designs are made from fallen trees and unused logs cast off from construction sites.“I don’t cut down trees for the wood I need,” he stressed. “I also try to be as efficient as possible with how I use the wood I have.”

And while he doesn’t necessarily think that we must only use natural materials in our lives, he notes that as humans we should consider which materials we use and how our choices influence our life and our environment. You can purchase his pieces online or simply admire them through his Instagram page.

Now more than ever is time to appreciate our loved ones, and though this appreciation doesn’t have to be materialistic in nature, a small keepsake doesn’t hurt. Yvonne Leung knows best. A designer and maker, she runs Hereafter, a brand meant to provide lasting reminders of special people and treasured connections through custom-made keepsakes.

“Before we create an item, we ask ourselves, ‘Is this something that will last and that somebody will treasure,?'” explained Leung in an interview with the Etsy blog. “I surf a lot and when I see trash in nature, it breaks my heart. We really make our products thoughtfully and with care.”

Made primarily from organic and sustainable materials, mainly wood, Hereafter’s products include laser-cut wooden stationery and boxes inscribed with personal messages. “People come to us for anniversaries, birthdays, new babies, and weddings,” explained Leung. “Or for the holidays, when they want something memorable for somebody they love.”

Based in Los Angeles studio, Leung is inspired by the beautiful California landscape, the relationships she holds dear, and above all – love. Here are some of the products she offers.

Are you looking for some one-of-a-kind furniture pieces to decorate your home? Well, you should definitely take a look at the works from New Zealand-based carpenter Henk Verhoeff.

Saying that Verhoeff is just a carpenter is a massive understatement. When you take a look at his work, you get a feeling that the more fitting description would be wood artist, because the things that he is able to do with wood are pure art.

Verhoeff’s works are so unique and special that they look like they came straight from a fantasy world of Harry Potter or other magic-inspired franchise. The pieces he makes are usually broken, have holes in them or almost cut in half so that you get a feeling they were in the middle of some magic chaos.

However, all of the woodworks Verhoeff crafts are fully functional.

“I describe my style of furniture as broken and weird. I like making weird furniture, something that you don’t see in a shop,” he said in a recent interview.

Check out some of his works below.

Do you know that trolls are real? Yes they are and if you don’t believe me, you can go and visit the woods in Belgium to see them with your own eyes. They may not be what you’ve expected – after all, they’re made out of wood!

Thomas Dambo is the person who is responsible for placing huge troll statues across Belgium in order to create a fairytale-like feeling in the forests.  He wanted to create something that will take away the attention from mobile phones and computers and make people go out in nature and explore more! This is why he hides the wooden trolls in different areas of Belgian forests. Every troll is made out of recycled material, so no trees were harmed during the process of creating them!

Thomas is also a fan of traditional tales that include stories with fairies and trolls roaming the woods. That is one of the reasons why his work is named “The 7 Trolls And The Magic Tower.” His statues shows trolls in different scenarios, but no matter their role, they’re all really carefully made and with the right proportions. If Belgium is on your travel list, make sure to look for the trolls!

Meet Brodie Gosselin a woodworker based in Canada. He loves to create coffee tables and wall art using things he finds in nature.

He first started using epoxy to fill holes and gaps in wood, but began experimenting with adding leaves, pebbles, wine corks, and more into his work. The finished pieces look like leaves floating down a stream or pebbles in a river.

When he first shared his work on Instagram, people couldn’t keep calm. They kept asking him to share his awesome work more and more.

His love for making wood and epoxy has made him to get more creative. First, he builds a mold to fit the pieces of wood and uses a variety of maple, black walnut and reclaimed barn wood. Then, he adds in the natural elements. Next, he pours the epoxy. The pieces come in a clear or matte finish.

See his work below, you’ll for sure fall in love with it!
