These Realistic Portraits Are Actually “Painted” by Threads And Nails

Threads and nails are usually not considered art tools, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be used for crafting impressive art pieces. Want to know how? Just take a look at the realistic portraits created by Konstantin Hlanta.

Hlanta is a self-taught artist who has had threads and nails as his primary art tools for the past three years. He uses the pins to outline the subject of his artwork and then wraps multi-colored threads around them to create an image.

Despite opting for a demanding technique, Hlanta manages to get even the slightest details correct, as seen in his portraits of celebrities like late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury or pop culture characters like The Joker. According to Hlanta, he designs all of his pieces by himself without the use of schemes or algorithms.

As you can assume, Hlanta’s portraits require a lot of nails, threads, and effort. For example, making a 60×60 portrait of late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington was a massive task. Hlanta worked for almost 120 hours while using 4,200 feet of thread and 1.3 lb of nails.

Hlanta showcases most of his portraits on Instagram while also sharing some exclusives on Patreon. He is also open to commission work. You can check out more of his pieces below.
