What Happens When Painters Use their Less Dominant Hands?

The good thing about art is that it doesn’t have to adhere to the rules. In fact, the actual breaking of the mold is what makes it art. Italian-French duo Marroni-Ouanely’s aspire to do just that, through their playful paintings that are intended failures.

Their latest exhibition features childlike paintings that were made by using the artists’ less dominant hand. According to them, the two right-handed artists used their left hands “in order to destabilize the technique, erase the know-how and thus leave the field open to their unconscious.”

By sticking to this artistic process, their paintings turn out intentionally “bad”, with scribbles, scratches, and unfinished thoughts pushed forward on canvas.

Their cartoon-like characters, mostly of dogs, tell a story about the joy of imperfection, encouraging us not to shy away from failure.
