A single table can make or break a good party. Usually underrated, especially if it was a really good party, a single table could tell the wildest stories – if it only could talk.

A very observant Italian saw the underrated guest of any party and decided to tell us the aftermath of the party from the table’s point of view.

Or, what’s left of the party and the table to be more precise. They take pictures and accept submissions from their followers of the wildest or the calmest parties you ever witnessed.

The whole idea behind this concept is to keep the memory and spark good conversation years later.

At first it does seem as it’s all about wild parties, but ‘UnusualTables’ also focus on family lunches, sleepovers, picnic at the park or a coffee amongst friends at the kitchen counter.

The idea is always the same – along with empty glasses and half-full plates we leave the table with something new we learned and most importantly a new memory that will always stay with us.

Going to a public toilet is usually a real nightmare, with rare exceptions – it’s dirty, there’s no toilet paper, no soap and don’t even get me started on the cleanliness. But when you gotta go, you gotta go, so we cross our fingers and hope that we’ll run on at least decent toilet. But there is one public toilet that is not like the others.

Located in Norway at the Ureddplassen rest area, this place will actually make you want to go. With exquisite design, you would think that is some fancy place for tourists, but you’d be wrong. Designed by Marit Justin Haugen and Dan Zohar, architects from Oslo, the public toilet will trick your mind into thinking that is some kind of an art installation with its futuristic design.  You can also get a breathtaking view from here, because the place is surrounded by the sea and lot of fjords, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a sight of the unforgettable Aurora Borealis.

This restroom is part of the Helgelandskysten scenic route, and it can be found on the road Fv17, so if you ever go there, you know where to stop.

Modern life is convenient. We live in huge houses with electricity and heat, we have running water and light whenever we need it, and we can buy basically everything we need. So why are more and more people trading that convenience for a 300 square foot house-on-wheels?

The tiny house movement has been on the rise for years. The idea of living small isn’t exactly new – people have been sharing crowded spaces and living in all sorts of tiny dwellings since the dawn of history. But that has usually been a matter of necessity. Today, people like Jenna Spesard from Tiny House, Giant Journey deliberately choose to live tiny when they can just as well get a mortgage on a house or a spacious apartment.

The tiny house people have many reasons to go small. Some are minimalist by nature and prefer to have as few belongings as possible. Some live alone and feel uncomfortable in a huge empty house. Some feel weighed down by bills and payments – tiny houses are usually off the grid and produce their own electricity. Others do it for ecological reasons.

The one thing they all have in common is a need for freedom – freedom from the crazy pace of modern living, of piling bills, of staying in one place, of buying stuff they don’t really need. Maybe they’re on to something.

One of the most eccentric and iconic talents to ever live, David Bowie is a creative genius in ever sense of the word.

Bowie spent most of his career baffling critics and fans alike, but almost always coming away with something so different and amazing that you can’t help but admire what he had created.

To say that he was a revolutionary would only be fitting.

As such, the world was definitely made worse when David Bowie died back in 2016 after a long bout with liver cancer. Three years later, many companies still continue to pay homage to the one of the world’s best-selling music artists. Mattel, in particular, recently released a barbie doll in honor of David Bowie.

If this were any other artist, we would’ve wondered why such a company would pay homage in such a rather bizarre manner, but this is David Bowie we’re talking about.

Pictured above is a small-scale model of Gutzon Borglum’s design of Mt. Rushmore. – During the 1920s, Doane Robinson—who was South Dakota’s state historian—thought a good way to attract tourists to Black Hills National Forest and the surrounding areas would be to make enormous sculptures of western heroes. Initially, he suggested sculpting Red Cloud—who was a Sioux chief—out of “the needles,” which were large granite pillars in the area. – In 1924, Robinson contacted Gutzon Borglum about the possibility of doing the sculpture. Eventually, he agreed, abandoning the General Robert E. Lee sculpture he was working on at the time, and went to South Dakota to decide on the right spot for the sculpture. – Before deciding on Mount Rushmore as the site of the sculptures, Gutzon suggested to Robinson that the sculptures be of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, reasoning that they would probably attract more tourists than Red Cloud. Later, he decided to add Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt to the sculpture. – The project began in 1927, and by the time it ended in 1941, they had removed some 450,000 tons of rock and carved out enormous heads that were 60 feet tall. As can be seen from the model, the sculptures were originally intended to be from the waist up. However, the project ran out of funding, leaving just their faces completed. – Today, roughly 2 million people visit Mt. Rushmore each year, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in America.

The above photo was taken of famous painter Frida Kahlo in 1946 by Nickolas Muray. – Frida Kahlo de Rivera—whose original name was Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón—was born on July 6, 1907 in Coyoacán, Mexico. As a young child, Kahlo was exposed to art by her father who was a photographer. – Although she would later become a famous artist, she initially intended to study medicine. In 1922, she enrolled in the National Preparatory School in Mexico City with that intent in mind. While she was studying there, she met her future husband, Diego Rivera, who was there painting a mural for the school. – Three years later, Kahlo was involved in a serious bus accident that left her seriously injured and caused her to have over 30 surgeries over her lifetime. While recovering from the accident, Kahlo took up painting and quickly became quite good at it. – A couple years later, she ran into Rivera again, and he strongly encouraged her to continue to paint. The two married in 1929 but would later divorce and then remarry. Kahlo went on to paint some of the most iconic art of the 20th century. – After marrying Rivera, Kahlo’s art changed a bit, and she began favoring Mexican folk art, and she would later take to art that has been labeled surrealism. Some of her most famous works include “The Broken Column” (1944), “Self Portrait With Thorn Necklace And Hummingbird” (1940), and “The Two Fridas” (1939).

We all could use a dose of positivity in our lives, let alone our Instagram feeds. Author and wellness consultant Alexandra Elle is here to do just that, posting daily reminders about self-care and healing your mind.

Living in the Washington, DC metro area with her husband and children, Elle admits that writing came into her life by way of therapy and the exploration of healing through journaling. Now, she passes it on, teaching workshops and retreats centered around assisting others in finding their voices through storytelling, poetry, and narrative writing rooted in truth without shame.

“I still feel vulnerable when I share my writing,” she admitted in an interview with Create & Cultivate. “It’s my heart’s work. I think vulnerability is good, so I lean into it. People relate to authenticity and I truly believe that being vulnerable helps amplify that.”

Indeed, people are relating to her. With more than 500 thousand followers on Instagram, several books to her name, as well as her own podcast, Elle has got her work cut out for her.

“The highlight of my career has been building a community near and far, in person and online,” she shared. “It blows my mind how writing, storying telling, and standing in comradery can shift the dynamics of sisterhood and self-love in such a positive way, time and time again.”

Notes on Going for It: When I self-published my first book 6 years ago, I did not expect my life to transform. I went from working a 9-5, to taking a risk by sharing my story, to quitting my toxic day job where I was undervalued, to speaking at a Ohio State University shortly after I resigned. . . I went on to self-publish a few more projects before being picked up by my first traditional publishing house who gave me a taste of what I wanted and didn’t. Being in this world has been such an eye opening experience. . . Earlier this year, I knew I wanted to shift in my career. I started working with an amazing literary agent who believed in me and helped me to find a new home for my work. Having @cincinn by my side is a game changer. My new books were pitched and went to auction for bidding (talk about feeling vulnerable). Despite being nervous about what was to come, I trusted the process. . . After having different (and amazing!) publishers to choose from I ended up signing a 2 book deal with @chroniclebooks. A publisher I’ve admired for years. My new editor @rachelhiles won my heart in so many ways, and I am so grateful to call Chronicle Books my new literary home! It’s been a long journey. . . This path has taught me so much about doing the hard thing, choosing myself, naming my worth as an artist, and going for it! Come 2020 you all will have a collection of essays & affirmations from me—followed by a journal to help YOU continue to do your soul-work. . . I share this all to say, you (too) can do your heart’s work. Very few folks believed in me when I started writing. Now my books will outlive me. My story and written work has become my legacy. Don’t be discouraged. Take your time, prepare, ask for help, and unfold to bloom into your passion! . . Thank you ALL for supporting me over the years. I am excited to bring new work to life for you. Be brave, and do the hard thing. You can do the work to get there! . . All my love, Alex

Notes on Boundaries: Recently I had to do my part in honoring the boundaries I put in place. So often we talk about others respecting and accepting a boundary, but more times than not, it falls on us to set the trend with honesty and clarity. Personal experience: I know someone who only reaches out when they want something. Their sporadic texts became a trend, laced with needs, wants, favors, and "quick question for ya" that rarely involved care or respect for my time, energy, and space. Despite me knowing this, I continued to answer, show up, and make time when I didn't want to. After a while, I stopped engaging all together, which wasn't a healthy choice, but I didn't want to hurt feelings or cause conflict. Not only that, my problem wasn't addressed or fixed because I decided that saying nothing would speak volumes. It didn't. The Lesson: Using avoidance and calling it a boundary is neither transparent or helpful. Speak up and communicate. . . When this person recently reached out, despite the distance I thought I created; I told them kindly and honestly that I didn't have the space or the desire to connect or talk. That the one-sidedness of our interactions don't work for me, and I would prefer to no longer keep in touch. It was uncomfortable, but if I kept crossing the boundary into nourishing draining relationships, the interactions would keep happening, and I would keep feeling how I felt with the other party not having a clue because of my lack of communication. We are all trying our best to navigate relationships and figure things out. It takes trial and error, effort, and practice to do this thing called life while human. As I grow, I am choosing to invest and place my energy in learning better communication skills, nurturing equally healthy and whole relationships, and finding a better balance with honoring my self boundaries. Community: Where are you placing and investing your time & energy?

Harry Potter star and United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador, Emma Watson, has been hard at work the last couple of years. Promoting education for girls, visiting Bangladesh and Zambia, and launching the UN Women campaign HeForShe, which calls for men to advocate for gender equality – she shows no signs of slowing down.

And when she isn’t working, she’s reading – a hobby which translated into a call for (feminist) action when she launched her Goodreads book club, Our Shared Shelf. The goal of the club is to share feminist ideas and encourage discussion on the topic. One book is selected every two months and is discussed using the Goodreads discussion board.

“As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on,” wrote Watson. “There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too.”

To become a member, all you need to do is register for an account and join on the group’s page. “Everyone is welcome. I would be honoured!” wrote Watson. You can also follow their inspiring Instagram page. It’s never too late to jump on board and crack open your books and minds.

Love this! ♥🖤 A family book club meet up for Father's Day?! What better way to celebrate! 📚📖 High praise for Pachinko here 👇 😍#Repost @itsakollerfulworld ・・・ Still catching myself with a huge grin on my face as I think about this weekend’s successful #Pachinko family #bookclub for #FathersDay 😆 We talked about how older generations simply don’t know how to express their words well, resulting in harsher words or suppressed emotions, 한, over the years, and how we can better that for our own family 🎎 We talked about who we liked or identified most with and why, who we thought others resembled, and what we might have done if we were in their shoes, speaking through the characters. We talked about how peaceful the “simpler times” seemed compared to the distractions of today yet how much burden must have been on the shoulders of our parents and grandparents to provide a “better” life, a life they could not fully have, for their most beloved children. . . I am so thankful that this book and its dual translations brought way for such a powerful and fruitful two hour conversation I never thought I’d get to have with my parents 🇰🇷 🇯🇵 🇺🇸 My last Pachinko post for a while, but thanks a bajillion to @lee_minjin, who made my dad speechless by how vividly she articulated history, bringing light to what was needed to be said, yet also reminding us of so much more, like human trafficking, that could not be unpacked in the same story. .

We talked about how peaceful the “simpler times” seemed compared to the distractions of today yet how much burden must have been on the shoulders of our parents and grandparents to provide a “better” life, a life they could not fully have, for their most beloved children. . . I am so thankful that this book and its dual translations brought way for such a powerful and fruitful two hour conversation I never thought I’d get to have with my parents 🇰🇷 🇯🇵 🇺🇸 My last Pachinko post for a while, but thanks a bajillion to @lee_minjin, who made my dad speechless by how vividly she articulated history, bringing light to what was needed to be said, yet also reminding us of so much more, like human trafficking, that could not be unpacked in the same story. .
