Viral memes sometimes come from the most unexpected places. That’s certainly the case with the hilarious new craze that’s taking TikTok and Instagram by storm, which involves funny clips from Debby Ryan’s old movies and shows.
Ryan rose to prominence with roles in a series of Disney Channel projects, including family sitcom Jessie and TV movie Radio Rebel. Some internet users re-discovered them almost a decade later and noticed how funny Ryan’s facial expressions are.
TikTok user @peppermintflower kicked off this viral meme after impersonating Ryan’s shy smile from Radio Rebel, and the rest of the world quickly followed suit. In addition to trying to recreate the actress’ facial expression, some internet users are simply adding funny captions next to the clips from her old projects.
Luckily, it’s all in good fun, and Ryan herself is in on the joke. When these memes first emerged, the former Disney star tweeted a gif from A Goofy Movie and added she’s been serious about her craft from a young age and studied technique alongside Roxanne.
