]]>A tension also exists in the combination of mediums that goes into each piece. In order to capture the raw beauty of nature, Velozo combines a range of traditional mediums such as oil, watercolor, and acrylic paint all in the same painting. The result is striking, if unnerving.
Centered around flora and fauna, her most recent series zooms in on the rich birdlife inhabiting grasslands. Birds such as crows, ravens, and eagles are seen throughout her work, placed against an abstract landscape that demands attention.
According to Velozo, grasslands are among our most vulnerable and endangered habitats due to urbanization. As such, she hopes that her paintings call attention to the preservation of such fragile environments. “I want to create a subconscious connection to the environment,” the Australian artist remarked. “I believe viewing a painting of nature evokes an intuitive reminder of the fragility and sacredness of the natural world.”

]]>An award-winning artist, Tanner has mastered the art of oil painting, capturing their features in great detail (though she like to believe that it’s her attention to the birds’ inner beings that gives the painting its lifelike quality).
Through her oil paintings, Tanner hopes to spread her love of birds, inspiring viewers to spend more time outdoors. “My goal is for the viewer to connect with the playful, human side of birds,” she relayed in a piece she wrote for Artsy Shark, “to see into their eyes and realize there is so much more than expected.”
“Birds sing, dance, fight, court, breed and fly,” she writes. “They claim territory, pair for life, play the field and fool around. They hold funerals, have socials, eat fermented berries and perform mating rituals that leave us baffled. The subject matter is endless!”
This richness also comes through her Instagram page, which we recommend you follow.

]]>Ching’s interest in birds began after he discovered a fascinating bird photography book. He became inspired by the complexity and power of birds. In his paintings of bird portraits, he replaces things that look similar to appreciate nature’s interconnectedness and adaptation.
Ching is impressed by the symbiosis found in nature as a natural phenomenon and as a metaphor.
If you’d like to rest your eye and inspire yourself by some fine art, we strongly recommend scrolling down and checking out Ching’s paintings!

]]>“I love birdwatching, especially in spring when the migrating species arrive back to Finland,” she shared with Flow Magazine. “My favorite place to watch them is by the water, so I guess that’s why aquatic birds are the most dear to me, but actually I love all birds. I’m definitely a bird lady.”
According to the said “bird lady”: “Birds are so fascinating. There are so many different species, and the spectrum of colors, shapes, patterns, and sounds seems endless. I also find age-old mythologies behind birds interesting. In so many cultures they have been used as an explanation for countless questions.”
Using mainly gouache, her paintings are both playful and endearing. Something to follow on Instagram, whether you’re bird people or not.

]]>Each unique piece begins the same way: with preparatory drawings that are based on either photographs or Redfern’s imagination. Sometimes she will also utilize collage as a compositional aid, cutting out pieces of paper to try different arrangements. But when she’s making an abstract piece, she will generally work more spontaneously, laying down stitch to see what emerges.
“I love the possibilities of embroidery and the range of marks and textures that can be built up with stitch,” Redfern writes on her website. “I tend to use back stitch and stem stitch to ‘draw’ outlines, before using straight stitches of varying lengths to fill in space and add areas of pattern.”
And as to her chosen subject, she admits that she’s drawn to the colors and patterns birds’ feathers tend to feature. Those translate perfectly into stitch. But she doesn’t exclude other animals. “I love to stitch pictures of other animals too, and I’m also very inspired by plants, gardens and the landscape,” she admits.

]]>This bird lives the life many people would love to have: they fly from sea to tree every day, since they feed near the sea, and nest in the forest. These birds are very sociable and they travel and feed in small groups. They are vegetarians – usually, they eat fruit fallen on the ground and sometimes supplement that with seeds. Like in our world, males often engage in aggressive behaviors to establish dominance, while on the other hand, they can be loving and nurturing fathers, as they raise the young together.

]]>“We took up the 365 days challenge of creating Miniature birds using paper and watercolors for this entire year of 2018,” they shared with Bored Panda. “The concept of this miniatures is to express the intricacy and vibrancy of the birds around us. We used the technique of layered paper cutting to give volume to the artworks and get a three-dimensional feel to them.”
All the artworks are entirely hand-cut and hand-painted. Each layer is precisely hand-cut on paper and painted to the exact shade of the bird after which it is assembled. Each artwork takes from 4-8 hours to complete depending on the details of the feathers and colors. Some of the tiniest paper birds measure only 1.8 CM in height (from head to tail).
You can purchase their miniature paper creations on their Etsy shop, or enjoy it from afar on their Instagram page.

At first Nayan and Vaishali planned to create only one piece of miniature art per day for a month, but after the overwhelming response in the first days of the project, they decided to extend it to a full year. And we’re incredibly happy they did!
