]]>According to Reed, she started getting interested in embroidery after taking a Textile Art course in school. She picked up some basic techniques but opted not to pursue it further as she was more interested in drawing and painting. It was only after she finished university that she found a way back to embroidery.
After picking up needles and threads once again, Reed discovered it to be a therapeutic practice and started practicing it more frequently. Then in 2018, she created an embroidery pet portrait as a Christmas gift for a friend and realized that she has a real knack for this type of art. It wasn’t long before she decided to pursue embroidery as a full-time career, creating a successful business that helps people all around the world to express love for their pets in a unique way.
Reed is also attempting to get more people involved in embroidery, believing everyone can do it with some work and patience.
“I truly believe that everybody has the ability to create something amazing with a little patience, and I want more people to believe that too,” says Reed on her official website.

]]>In her intriguing works, Currie manages to stitch the Earth’s oceans and terrains in the way satellite captures them. She meticulously recreates mesmerizing patterns and colors created by nature, managing to seize all the important details despite using such a demanding technique.
Currie, who has a daily job as a government environmental project officer in New Brunswick, Canada, says she was inspired to start this project by her love for oceans and appreciation for satellite imagery.
“I love the ocean. I grew up on the east coast of Canada, and going to the beach was one of my favorite things to do,” Currie said in a recent interview. “I enjoy looking at satellite imagery and maps. The patterns and colors captured from that vantage point are stunning, especially images of movement patterns of biological processes.”
Currie shares her works on her Instagram page, fittingly named @satellite_stitches. Each embroidery piece inspired by satellite imagery also contains coordinates of the location, allowing viewers to compare the two. Check out more of her impressive works below.

]]>For her British followers, she is best known for her 3D soft sculpture mice. But she likes embroidery more and tries to make it as realistic as possible by adding beads to certain elements of the pieces.
Scrolling through her enchanting Instagram gallery, you’ll notice a bunch of animal portraits done with so much precision. Images of cows, roosters, giraffes, flamingos, chickens, and more, are adorning her social media platform. However, these pieces differ from others thanks to the colorful beads sewn into them.
Although she is currently available for commissions, she experiences a dose of anxiety when doing pet portraits.
“I’ve only done two pet commissions. They make me very anxious because of how personal and important they are to the customer,” she wrote on her Instagram.
She currently lives in Huston, Texas, with her husband. Scroll down and check out some of her work below!

]]>Larocque started embroidering in 2011 when she moved to Berlin. She was creating stuff only for her friends at the time. Then, three years later, she opened her online store, where you can purchase her embroidered art, objects, and bags. She currently lives in Lyon, France.
“The designs tend to stem from my overactive imagination that braids in imagery from horror films and the stranger-then-fiction stories of reality TV,” she explained to It’s Nice That.
The secret behind the name ffembroidery is interesting. “FF” or “famous friends” is from a movie, and it was meant to be for Larocque’s future high school electro-duo band. As it never happened, she decided to stick with the name. That is is how ffembroidery was born.
Her main goal with her business is to create “high-quality products and personal custom accessories that are handmade with the highest attention to detail and craftsmanship.”
“Every day I am constantly learning and improving my skills, and I have big plans for the future of ffembroidery,” the crafter added.

]]>Her embroidery story is quite unusual. It all started when she randomly found a pattern on Etsy and decided to give it a try. To her surprise, she immediately fell in love with the craft. She loves how tactile it is and how she can play with colors.
Although she finished school for business, life took her back to her beginnings: she was raised by creative parents and knew how to sew and cross-stitch.
Before putting thread into a needle, she first draws her idea on her iPad and then traces them from there. On Instagram, there is a big embroider community, so people copying each other is not a new thing. Although Smith is quite worried about people re-doing her work, she still chooses to stay positive.
“I try to tell myself that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and keep doing my thing. I’m also touched by how often it’s brought to my attention by my followers,” she said in a statement for Embellished Talk.

]]>“Something that made me feel uplifted but at ease. I’d become so connected to screens, to work, to getting it all done; embroidery was able to be the antithesis of that.”
Known for her modern hoop art and one of a kind jewelry pieces, Case puts a contemporary spin on the traditional practice, passed onto her by her grandmother. Inspired by her grandmother’s hands delicately manipulating the fabric, Case taught herself how to hand embroider herself. “I needed something that I could do at home,” she explains, “that would entertain me but also was calming, relaxing and creative.”
But teaching herself the ins and outs of the trades took time and effort, and needless to say, mistakes were made. “I’d buy the books! I’d buy the fabric! I’d buy the floss! And the hoops! And the needles! PHEW… And then I’d promptly get ‘too busy’ and put them away in the cupboard,” she recalled. “Only to pick them up a couple of months later and start the process all over again. I’d get so excited to do something creative and then KAPUT I’d give up.”
Luckily for us, she pushed through. You can purchase her embroidered pieces on her Etsy shop or follow her work online, via Instagram.

]]>A common thread throughout her work is an emphasis on nature, with a specific interest in plants and flowers. “We at Olislagers have a passion for art and are inspired by nature,” reads her studio’s website. “Plants bring a room to life in a way that nothing else can. But let’s be honest, these living creatures need space, light, water and lots of love. With this new collection, we offer everyone the possibility to create an urban jungle however big or small.”
Olislagers’ love of plants is quite literal, as both her artwork and her work environment is steeped in greenery. Based in Maastricht, the Netherlands, the great outdoors also provides Olislagers a natural source of inspiration. And more specifically, the changing of seasons.
“With the coming and going of seasons, there is always something to discover,” she writes. “Whether it’s small like a flower in bloom or big as the ever-changing lights and colors in the sky, all you have to do is take a step back, really look around you and find that there is beauty everywhere.”

]]>But mostly, her embroidery is a way of life. Having graduated from Lasalle College of the Arts, majoring in Fashion Textile Design, Lim has been working on anything textile related ever since. “I majored in textile design when I was in university,” she told Create Magazine, relaying her background. “We had to go through a short course in basic embroidery, and that was the start of my embroidery journey. I started by working on samplers that were part of the course work, but I got so addicted to the process that I found myself hoping the course would never end!”
“Because of my background and training in textile and fashion design, I am always thinking of application onto women’s (I majored in womenswear) bodies,” she added. “At the end of my degree, I found myself being not so interested in the superficiality of design but in using it as a medium to highlight issues and tell stories.”
Her embroideries include anything from portraits to accessories (there’s even an embroidered mandarin peel!), all made with special attention to details and with an added touch of wit and humor. Here are some of our favorite pieces by her.

]]>“I give notes for each design, including which stitches I used where,” she further explained in an interview with the Etsy blog, “so folks can replicate my example photos if they want to—or they can do their own thing.” According to Stiglets, the pattern is pre-printed on the fabric, with the floss, needle, and hoop all included in her kits. She also has a Getting Started Guide, which walks you through the process, step by step, with the aid of diagrams.
“I encourage you to slow down,” says Stiglets. “Take some time to notice the world around you. Look within and help your mind focus and calm so that you can come from a place of quiet rather than chaos. When your mind is peaceful, your life is richer.”
A self-taught embroiderer, Stiglets attitude towards her craft might just inspire you to follow her footsteps. Who knows, you might find yourself a new hobby by the end of the year.

]]>A creative at heart, Thursday More soon felt antsy and decided it was time to do something creative with the free time she had. “I started making an inventory of my skills and what I’d like to do, and I decided I’d really enjoy working with fabric and drawing and colors,” she notes. “I had a few threads, so I tried embroidering, and it’s cliché, but it was love at first sight.”
Embroidery, as it turns out, also runs in her genes. “Creating is in my blood,” she explained on her website. “My maternal grandmother used to make quilts and sell it to farmers during the harvest season.” Thursday More also remembers how her mother used to sew pencil cases and throw pillowcases. “I used to sit under her sewing machine, cutting away the excess threads from the things she has made.”
Nowadays, her embroidery takes the form of jewelry, with her unique necklaces featuring floral patterns that add a touch of vintage chic to any outfit. See for yourself.
