Murmure is a French duo made up of artists Paul Ressencourt and Simon Roche. Their latest series is titled Garb-age and it’s meant to show the consequences of the environmental crisis that’s going on in the world.

Ressencourt and Roche paint black trash bags that have taken over humans’ and animals’ lives. They’re not subtle at all; their black and white paintings with a single red string are meant to be blunt about the issue and make us do something about it.

“The main idea was to play with the colors of a regular black garbage bag as much as possible. Not only for dramatic appeal, but also for the depth of shades and, somehow, the elegance of its texture and reaction to light. That’s why we use graphite pencil, to achieve this texture,” This is Colossal quoted the artists.

These sculptures are part of her ongoing series Discarded Objects, with which Kilgast attempts to raise environmental awareness and influence people to make peace with nature. She considers her works to have a cheerful message despite the gritty undertone, as they serve as a reminder that nature can recoup its shine if it’s left alone.

According to Kilgast’s official website, “her work has a cheerful post-apocalyptic feel to it, a reassuring reminder that nature has the capacity to grow back, if we only let it.”

Aurora Robson describes herself as an environmentally conscious artist, working predominantly with plastic debris. Known for her sculptures and installations made of repurposed plastic waste, she hopes to help restrict the flow of plastic into our oceans.

A founding artist of Project Vortex, an international collective of artists, designers, and architects who also work extensively with plastic debris, Robson has been developing a college course called “Sculpture + Intercepting the Waste Stream” designed to foster creative stewardship initiatives through academia.

“My goal is to employ art as a device for shifting values,” she shared in an interview with Artnet. “As opposed to merely communicating, I am attempting to literally reprogram myself and my audience in terms of our relationship to matter, ourselves, and each other.”

“I want my work to be an accurate reflection of reality, but waste is messy,” she admits. “I aim for precision in the work. In order to achieve that precision, my studio must be carefully prepared. I listen to news and information on various programs for a portion of the day so that I can stay informed. Then for the remainder of the day, I typically play energetic or meditative, innovative music to aid in processing information and maintaining creative momentum.”

The end result is both striking and alarming. A wakeup call, if you ever needed one, about the state of our oceans.

If you can take a few minutes out of your day to look up the statistics on how much plastic we dump into our oceans everyday, you probably wouldn’t want to use one-time plastic ever again.

Some 8 million tons of plastic find their way into the oceans daily, and what constitutes a huge part of this waste are plastic straws. But, that’s not even the worst part.

What’s worse is that, because these plastics are usually not biodegradable, they float around for months if not years, and are often mistaken by aquatic creatures for food, causing injury and sometimes, even death.

And even when these plastics do begin to decompose, they do even more harm to the environment by releasing harmful toxins.

Thus, every bit of help counts.

Tran Minh Tien, a Vietnamese man, is one of the individuals who’s trying to change the world, one plastic straw at a time.

Using Lepironia articulata, a type of grass that’s very common around the Mekong Delta area in Vietnam, Tran Min Tien creates completely sustainable and eco-friendly drinking straws that are biodegradable and free from any sort of preservatives, as well as chemicals.

The straws could reportedly be used once in restaurants, and could be used multiple times for home use. It’s also rather affordable, selling for only 4.3 cents per dried straw and about 2.6 cents per fresh straw.

Who doesn’t love avocados? They’re healthy, tasty, and it seems like they instantly improve any salad, toast, sandwich, sushi roll or burger they happen to be introduced to. NASA even went on record saying that if they could only equip their astronauts with just one type of produce, it would be avocados, thanks to their many beneficial properties! So, it’s no wonder that avocado consumption is on the rise, worldwide. One of the world’s major avocado suppliers is Mexico, which can lay claim to nearly %45 of all avocados grown worldwide.

But ever industry has its wasteful byproducts – and in the avocado industry’s case, it’s mostly – you guessed it! – avocado pits.

Enter Biofase, a Mexican company who have made it their mission to create bioplastic, biodegradable products made from avocado seeds.

These include cutlery and straws, which are completely reintegrated into the environment after 240 days, without leaving any toxic trace behind.

Biofase collect avocado seeds from companies that process avocados in order create guacamole or avocado oil, and use them as raw material for their products.

Sean “Hula” Yoro is a self-taught Hawaiian artist who unleashed her passion for art to combine it with a love of surfing. This unusual mixture resulted in a unique street art that has conquered with beautiful retables of women painted underwater.

Using abandoned and little-crowded spaces, Yoro paints large works in places where they can only be seen at the moment the tide is low. Women decorated with flowers and tribal tattoos are the elements that predominate in his paintings. His works have an ecological and global warning message and use the tide to accent on the importance of the preservation of the planet.

The artist enjoys painting in contact with nature in places from Canada to Italy and uses biodegradable paints that do not harm the ecosystem that surrounds the waters in which his works are submerged.
