]]>With a whopping 260k followers on Instagram, she’s sort of a celebrity when it comes to stick-n-poke tattoos. A self-taught tattoo artist (but aren’t they all?), most of her early clients had never even heard of stick-n-poke – a traditional form of body art that involves using a sharp point and some ink. “I always liked that it’s a lowbrow art form,” observed Compton in an interview with Amadeus.
According to Kartomten, she gave and received her first tattoo when she and her friend hand-poked each other’s fingers. “I started with friends at home in San Francisco,” she recalled. “We wanted to do it then and there, and I had sewing needles and India ink. I became a professional over a long period of time.”
Working out of Saved Tattoo in LA’s Arts District, these days Compton only takes bookings a month in advance. “I’ve never wanted recognition,” she admits, “which is why tattooing is great because it’s for someone else.”

“While making art, I realized that a person’s body is the most valuable material and that I want to make people happy when they look at my work on their bodies…” the artist shared on Bored Panda. “I don’t think there’s anything more gratifying than carrying the fairy-tale design that one imagines in his body all his life.”
When doing his magic, he loves to tell the fairy-tale stories which happen in our dreams, he creates beautiful stories fusioned with nature and animals.

]]>Now, with more than 100k followers on Instagram people are standing in line to get tattoed by the master of hand-poking, known online as “Slower Black”.
“When clients come in, I already have a good idea of what they want, because at that point we’ll have already emailed or talked about it over the phone,” she says. “Then I draw up the design and get the A-OK from the client before making a stencil. Once the stencil is made, I put it onto the person’s skin, and we decide on a placement that they like. Then we make it happen. The setup is clean and sterile, and everything is the same setup as it is with a machine, except for the tools I’m using.”
A palm-sized tattoo takes between 1-2 hours, a hand-sized one takes 3 hours but back pieces can take up until 40 hours. Judging by the finished result, the struggle is well worth it:

]]>Since tattooing our bodies has been growing as a trend, ears, as the most popular body part to be decorated, haven’t been excluded from it. Minimal tattoos seem to be a favorite when it comes to ear tattooing, and since the surface is small, it usually comes down to geometrical placements and floral designs. Some people ink directly the skin of the ears, while others put tattoos behind the ear. Either way, it looks amazing!
Celebrities who proudly wear ear tattoos are Cara Delevingne, Miley Cirus and Rihanna, and these look particularly elegant on them, although men wear them just as well. On the downside, the making of these tattoos can be very painful and unpleasant.
We’ve collected some examples to show you how beautiful ear tattoos can be!

]]>“I wear many tattoos myself. Mostly on my legs, because that’s when I started practicing before tattooing other people,” she shared in an interview in German with femtastics. “I do not wear tattoos on my arms or other obvious spots, as you can see. So I’m not the classic tattoo artist cliché. My grandmother knows nothing about my tattoos,” she added.
Inspired by Picasso’s inked portraits, Cocteau’s line drawings, and Jean Arp’s use of organic shapes, the Berlin-based tattoo artist uses thin black lines to create minimal surrealist works. “My drawings are never too serious or boring,” she stressed. “At least I hope so. I would call my style surrealistic.”
“I like to paint vases or hands. Basically, I try to combine different, mostly contradictory things in one picture. That result is always exciting. But faces are my absolute favorite motif,” she added. Whatever her creations are, they always maintain and an element of the absurd.
