Tom Froese’s Illustrations Have a Friendly Swagger to Them

A designer by training and an artist at heart, Tom Froese creates stunning illustrations, full of character and wit. Working independently since 2013,
Froese has collaborated with companies, organizations and small businesses around the world. His Clients include Yahoo!, Air Canada, GQ France, and Abrams Publishing.

Working from his home studio in the small village of Yarrow, about an hour’s drive east of Vancouver, he shares his space with designer Amanda Froese, their two daughters, and their funny cat with a permanent Christmas sweater, named Blueberry.

“My work is inspired by illustrations from the 1950s and 60s, which were often constrained by simpler reproduction techniques like letterpress, screen printing, and limited color offset printing,” he told Ape on the Moon. “In terms of mood, I aim to create work that has a friendly swagger and a gentle freedom to it.”

Whether illustrating for magazines, designing greeting cards and beer labels, illustrating children’s books, or collaborating with ceramists, he aims to create work that is original, beautiful, and alive.
