]]>DeBoer recreates everyday objects and items from pop culture, including cowboy boots, sneakers, basketballs, coolers, and much more.
According to DeBoer, he uses his “extensive knowledge of ceramic materials and processes” to bring his sculptures “a new life becoming heirlooms of the 21st century.
“By using classical motifs of cobalt patterns and true to life finishes DeBoer’s casts become suspended somewhere in the past and disguised in the present,” it states on his website.
DeBoer was born in South Dakota and currently resides in Los Angeles, California. The artist says that his Midwestern upbringing and the “ever-changing and vastly diverse landscape” of Los Angeles serve as a major influence on his work.
DeBoer received his Bachelor of Fine Arts-Ceramics degree at Kansas City Art Institute. His works have been exhibited across the United States in solo and group exhibitions while being featured in several high-profile publications like Create! Magazine and Fete Chinoise Magazine.

]]>DeJardin and AllRightsReserved teamed up to create a new series of painted bronze sculptures known as Guardians Alastor. The project represents a culmination of DeJardin’s artistic journey in the past five years, most of which focused on expanding on his idea of guardians, mysterious entities that take up all sorts of different forms and provide protection and encouragement in moments of need.
The Guardians Alastor sculpture will be released in a limited quantity of 20 units. Interested collectors can apply on AllRightsReserved’s official webshop, DDTStore, and the 20 buyers will be determined via a draw in June.
“What’s exciting about this project is that sculptures provide permanence by existing as tangible, three-dimensional objects that endure over time,” said DeJardin when discussing the project in a video shared on DDTStore’s official social media. “The idea of having a ‘Guardian’ figure placed in locations all across the globe, during a time of ongoing world turbulence, I hope provides some type of comfort and protection to its host.”

]]>LEGO recently presented a new entry to its LEGO Art series, which allows users to recreate Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The set, which comes at a price of $99.99, consists of 1810 pieces and is envisioned as an immersive building project. When you purchase the set, you’ll get access to a soundtrack that includes interviews and stories about the artist and the artwork.
“This is a joyful and creative project for art lovers to produce their own unique dimensional piece of art,” says LEGO in the product description. “Finish the artwork with a decorative tile featuring Hokusai’s signature before you proudly display it on your wall at home or at the office.”
Hokusai created The Great Wave as a woodblock print in 1831 as part of a larger series titled Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. It is estimated that 1,000 prints were created upon the creation of the artwork, with the final number hovering around 8,000 copies. However, only around 100 survived to date.
LEGO Art series kicked off in 2020 with the set inspired by Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Diptych painting. Several other sets followed, including those dedicated to The Beatles, Star Wars, and Harry Potter.

]]>These lamps have their shades made out of giant pencil shavings. For real. Kume crafts giant pencils and then uses a giant sharpener to get the shavings. As you can imagine, the results are quite impressive.
According to Kume, she was fascinated “by the shape and fleetingness” of pencil shavings since childhood. When she got older and started her career as a designer, she wanted to incorporate those shapes and fleetingness in her works.
“I thought that by increasing the size and thickness of what must be discarded as waste, it would be possible to create new products while maintaining the beauty of the shape,” she explained.
Kume’s lamps are currently in the experimental phase, but that won’t be the case for too long. After getting much attention on the internet and from festivals, the designer intends to make them available for purchase soon. Until then, check out some of her designs below.

]]>The Japanese Google staff created a keyboard prototype called Gboard Bar that takes up a minimum amount of space thanks to its narrow design. Instead of having letters distributed in six rows, Gboard has all letters in a single row.
The Gboard Bar was presented in a video uploaded on YouTube and quickly captured the attention of internet users.
“Until now, we’ve been focusing only on the “key’ part of the keyboard, but we start to think that we should be looking at what comes next, “Google Japan’s software engineer Hiroyuki Komatsu says in the video.
Gboard Bar comes with great workplace functionality, allowing more space on the desk for documents, easier cleaning, and typing with a partner for faster output.
As demonstrated in the video, Gboard Bar has a variety of other perks that are not work-related. For example, it can be used to reach objects and hit switches thanks to its 5.25 feet length while also working well as a measuring or walking stick.

]]>“My work is about bringing a friendly face to the unknown, and to help people explore the depths within themselves and the universe,” said Filice in an interview with Ballpitmag. “I just want people to realize that life is more than running errands and going to work, that there’s magic in the space between everything.”
Filice’s positive attitude shows throughout her work, exploring the magical space that lies between everyday moments. Based in San Francisco, Filice originally studied graphic and user experience design but these days works mainly in illustration.
Her illustrations, while graphic and vibrant, also have an element of surprise to them, that might call to mind more psychedelic/surrealist artists. Indeed, Filice admits to being inspired by artists like Moebius, Milton Glaser, and Salvador Dali.
Other inspiration sources of hers are music, architecture, and nature: “I try to go for daily walks in the park while listening to music and just let my intuition go,” she notes. “I’ll usually come back home feeling refreshed and inspired.”

]]>Originally from Minsk, Belarus, and currently based in San Diego, California, Griesinger works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. According to Griesinger, it is her formal training in drawing and painting which makes the basis of her design work—proof that digital artwork can still benefit from classical groundwork.
But to get to where she is today, a lot of trial and error was needed as well. “It took me a while to define what my own style would look like,” she noted once in a chat with The Design Kids.
According to Griesinger, the recipe for success lies in the effort being put. “Try everything, stick to what most successfully illustrates your ideas and comes off more naturally to you,” she says.
These days, her style shifts between two opposite poles: a more realistic approach to illustration and a clean-cut, geometric-based approach. “I think it is only natural that after years of practicing both I became a greeting card graphic designer and illustrator,” says Griesinger.
Recent work of hers includes a botanical interpretation of the English alphabet (part of the @36Daysoftype challenge) and some festive greeting cards.
