]]>While visiting Bali, Brown found herself inspired by the local tattoo artists and illustrators. They were all working digitally, which turned out to be the triggering point for her to become a digital artist.
“I never thought I was that patient when it came to creating art, so I loved any medium that allowed me to bring my vision to life quickly. This is why digital art has changed my life! I love using the Procreate App. It has really allowed me to experiment and bring my ideas to life without wasting any medium,” she said in an interview for Ballpit. She also added that before discovering the digital world, she would work with watercolors and posca pens.
Although she is still working on her color palettes, one thing is for sure: fashion illustration will always be her number one influence.
“I love drawing people and characters that represent a certain mood that is usually bold and sassy. I would say my alter ego shines through most of the characters I draw,” she explained. “My overall style consists of a quirky concoction of current trends mixed with playful color palettes resulting in bold stylized characters.”

]]>Now, she’s considered NYC’s most sought after nail artist, with clients as big as Gigi and Bella Hadid, as well as Ariana Grande. And with big names comes a big fashion statement. “I love drama,” said Kawajiri in an interview with WWD.
According to her, the biggest difference between Japanese and American nail art is that Japanese designs are “more abstract,” whereas her American clients “love to have a theme.” “Even 10 years ago, [Japan was] doing what we are doing in New York: big stones, crazy charms,” she explained. “Young girls save money for their nails instead of eating a lot of food. They wanna be skinny and they wanna have cool nail art.”
Her inspiration comes from the world around her, but she admits she tries no to be too influenced by other nail gurus. “As long as I don’t copy or I don’t watch other people’s Instagram, I’m good,” she stated. “I don’t watch nail Instagrams at all. If you see [something] one time, you have the idea already on the inside of your head. I don’t wanna be like that. I wanna be always original and new.”
Here are some of her fresh designs.

]]>Holloway, a respected name in underwater photography, grows clothes and sculpture-like objects out of grass roots. She is considered a pioneer in this field, and her techniques and methods are laying the groundwork for sustainable fashion and art.
According to Holloway, she got the idea to use grass roots as a material while exploring solutions that would help solve the problem of plastic pollution. While doing some research at her local river, she noticed that the roots of a willow tree look similar to textiles. At that point, a thought crossed her mind: “What if we could grow clothes from seed?”
Holloway started working on bringing her idea to life and has managed to do so quite efficiently. She grows wheatgrass into beeswax templates, creating pieces of clothing, accessories, and sculptures out of grass roots. The final results are quite impressive and indicate that Holloway’s idea of sustainable fashion could actually be possible.

]]>Indeed, much like fashion, his art is living and breathing; his signature ink-based style—loose and playful. It’s his non-elitist approach that has caught the attention of huge brands—anything from Louis Vuitton and Audi to Net-A-Porter and Moët Hennessy.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Evernden studied BA Fashion Design Womenswear prior to working solely as an artist. Nowadays his work encompasses illustration as well as animation and campaign direction, with his work published on a variety of platforms including television commercials and onsite installations.
“What has always excited me about it, like clothing, is that it can play a part of everyday life,” he explained his love of art and fashion. “I love that it can be a sketch jotted on a post-it note, or a painting hanging in the National Gallery. I’m also excited by how it’s constantly evolving, aided by changes in how we consume, social media, etc.”

]]>“I’ll take a runway image and create a whole story of who the girl is and where she would be,” Karman explained in an interview with Matter of Hand, where she mentioned her sources of inspiration. “I then place her in that situation within my illustration. That’s where a lot of my pieces start.”
But though her work zooms in on features like shoes and sunglasses, her work doesn’t necessarily comply with society’s beauty standards. “My work is not about trends at all,” says Karman, “that doesn’t interest me. If anything I like clothes that are more retro.”
Based in Los Angeles, Karman has graduated from the Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Illustration, but her interest in drawing began much earlier. “I’ve been into drawing since I was a little kid,” she recalled. “Eventually, something clicked and illustration became a major passion of mine,” she adds, noting that combining illustrating with fashion, another passion of hers, was only natural.
