Art director and designer, Santi Zoraidez, is known for his glossy digital illustrations and short animations, featuring surreal landscapes in bright, shimmering colors. “I like to see how shapes and objects interact with each other,” said Zoraidez in an interview with Grafik, “and how I can use the way that they look to communicate an idea. Whether in motion or as still image, this is the way I approach a project.”

It’s his unique ability to merge 3D illustrations with groundbreaking digital effects that puts Zoraidez at the very forefront of design, attracting clients like Apple, Nike, and Ikea amongst others.

“I really try to develop my ideas for each piece of work outside of the screen, and then after some time I build up something to try out in digital,” he relays, explaining what goes into place behind the scenes. “That is when my visual development process really starts.”

Passionate about furniture, interior design, art installations, architecture and, of course, graphic design, his pieces are informed by many sources of inspiration. “There is something interesting to me about the compositions I can create and the way that shapes interact with each other,” he says, “together with a sense of space or volume, and referring mostly to real materials.”

“I love collecting ’70s interior design books for inspiration,” admitted Brown in an interview with Design Milk, stating her sources of inspiration. “The over-the-top colorful palettes, quirky motifs, and the overall carefree attitude of the ’70s excite me, and those are elements that I like to bring into my work.”

Color, as it turns out, is front and center in her designs, a fact that also comes across in her chosen moniker. “My name was actually given to me by a friend who was trying to figure out my middle name,” she relayed. “She jokingly guessed Purple since my first and last name already happen to be colors. I loved the way Jade Purple Brown sounded, so I decided to use it as my artist name. My name is a clear depiction of my work: colorful, strong, and unique.”

Based in New York, Brown collaborates with fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands, working as an illustrator and graphic designer, as well as an art director. Her bold, and oftentimes digital illustrations, are aimed at encouraging herself and others to be more optimistic and free. And with clients like Apple, Facebook, Sephora, and Google, her optimism is very much contagious.

“To create is to live twice,” reads Jerome Masi’s Instagram bio. And judging by his rich portfolio, his creative life is bursting at the seams. Based in Annecy, France, Masi has graduated from the Emile Cohl school in Lyon in 2001 and has been hard at work ever since, working in a variety of fields, from video games and film directing to illustrating.

A professional illustrator and artistic director, he’s recognized for his vector style of illustration, with his creations being both minimal and graphic. A recurrent character in his work—a pensive looking figure—has come to be understood as a metaphor for the artist himself.

“Creativity has always been part of my life,” Masi told Sense of Creativity. “I willingly associate curiosity with creativity, maybe that’s where everything starts, with curiosity.” His advice to other aspiring creatives? Never give up, believe in what you do, meet people, and mainly: “produce, produce, produce.”

With a freelance career that has spun for over 15 years, his advice has to be worth something.

“Art is a powerful tool it has that unique ability to engage individuals in a very deep and personal way,” she went on to explain. “It’s like the door to other people’s minds and hearts. When people open them to you, you receive a rare chance to show them the world, through your own eyes.”

French illustrator Eloise Girard always dreamed about becoming an artist, and although she loved being a biology student, her favorite part was to depict microorganisms and other creatures in her notebook. She first became a 3D animation artist, but later, she decided she would become a freelance illustrator.

“I love to work with shapes and colors, I always try to unite curves and angles, sensibility and strength. I have synesthesia which allows me to see colors when I think of words or people I know and I think it’s why I have a particular relationship with colors,” the artist told in an interview for Ballpit and added that she could describe her work as sensitive and harmonious.

She reveals that her favorite medium is a digital illustration, because “everything is under control” and that she “always feel the urge to draw people I see and keep in mind the color palette I see in real life.”

The first you notice when scrolling through Rebecca Mills’ portfolio is her obsession with color. Using carefully selected color palettes, her vibrant illustrations seem to jump right out the screen – a perfect addition to your dull Instagram feed.

Aside from color, her vector illustrations stand out for their playful themes and the use of simplified geometric shapes, crisp edges, and smooth curves. Those have caught the attention of clients like the Perth Zoo, the State Library of Western Australia, and the University of New England, as well as some 10k fans on Instagram.

“My work is digital,” she told Ballpitmag. “I have so much respect for those working in traditional media without the magic of undo and easy proportion/scale adjustments. Being able to adjust colors globally is also something I really love. Everything looks better when slid -5 on hue!”

“Once I get a brief, I sketch while split-screen researching on my iPad (normally on the couch with the terrible TV on in the background),” she explained her creative process. “Once the sketches are approved by my client, it’s color blocking time. If the brief allows, I’ll bring into PS and go nuts with homemade paint textures and brushes.”

3D artist and illustrator Sonal Jadhav creates dream-like landscapes that are both eerie and whimsical. By incorporating rich color palettes, her aim is to deliver imagery that surpasses the brief – focusing on a strong use of color and composition. Her images are also meant to please the senses, by using characters, forms, and textures that add a tactile quality to her art.

Her artwork is inspired by various art forms, including photography, architecture, and textile designs. After many years of playing around with different aesthetics, Jadhav says that she found a passion for creating surreal digital spaces. Other people followed suit, with her illustrations featured in editorials, advertising campaigns, and one-off commissions for clients around the world.

“When I am creating an illustration in 3D, I start by collecting a lot of real-life references,” explained the Netherlands-based illustrator in an interview with Ballpitmag. “Once I visualize it in my head, I go straight to 3D and build basic shapes. I spend a good amount of time on creating compositions with those basic shapes.”

According to Jadhav, composition is key. “I prefer lighting my scene as it helps me in composing and see how shapes react to light,” she adds. “Then I get into adding details to those 3D shapes, play with materials and render to bring my imagination to life.”

Based in Singapore, Winata’s work is based on clean lines and firm structure. But the result isn’t as rigid as you might think. “I mostly work in vector because that’s what I’m used to and work fastest in,” she told Ballpitmag. “With the right brushes/textures you can use it to emulate drawings done organically. Vector drawings can also be scaled up easily, making vector a versatile medium for adaptations to different formats.”

Using balanced layouts and bright colors, her work is vibrant and fresh – that extra something, something, your Instagram feed is craving this winter. “As a naturally quiet person, art is a way for me to express myself,” Winata explained. “It is a big part of me and I am lucky to be able to make a living through it. I’ve also enjoyed how art has been used to promote messages and causes that would otherwise take a long time to express. A picture does speak a thousand words.”

And when she isn’t pushing pixels, you can find her surfing memes, doodling quotes, and stalking the neighborhood cat. Sounds like our kind of person.

What happens when you combine architecture with fantasy? Mathew Borrett’s digital cityscapes, perhaps. Working both as an illustrator and an environment/concept artist in the film and TV industry, Borrett is a master of worldbuilding.

His work is the result of his dreams, as well as a lifelong obsession with LEGO, hay forts, and computers. “I hesitate to talk about how much dreams inspire my work, since its almost a cliché and boring to listen to, but it can’t be understated,” he admitted in an interview with Line Gallery. “There’s a kind of magic vitality there that’s almost impossible to put into words, and images can only hint at it. So yes, its possible to read a lot into the work psychologically speaking.”

His digital landscapes are meant to be a combination of creepy and whimsical – a sort of immersive universe that invites the viewer in. “Perhaps this boils down to wanting my drawings to be haunted in the same way that my dreams locales often feel haunted,” remarked Borrett.

“I hope that a viewer will be able to put themselves in my spaces,” he adds. “To that end, I’ve avoided adding any figures of any kind to inhabit the rooms, so the viewer is free to imagine themselves inhabiting them if they choose.”

Take a look inside.
