According to Rae, she started making comics after getting bored with repetitive news feeds and social media posts. She had her starts on one iPhone app and admits that her first works were poorly drawn and were more doodles than comics. However, the jokes were there, and with the encouragement of her friends, she continued to improve her skills. She also managed to find a distinctive style.
“I guess I just want people to be able to get a laugh out of them,” she explains. “I don’t really like arguing with people, so I try not to make anything political or controversial.”
This simplistic approach resonated with people and helped Rae turn her comics into several books. However, she still regularly updates Doodley Squat social media profiles with new content. Check out more of it below.

The artist also creates and sells different kinds of products, such as the Loving Out Loud calendar. He says that in this chaotic world we live in, it’s easy to forget about all the good times that we’ve had, and a calendar featuring these little comics is supposed to remind us of those precious moments every day. There is even a space on the front and on the backside of the calendar where you can write down your feelings or doodle something cute and memorable!

]]>Vampire Boyfriend is her baby project and Julia makes sure to keep us updated on the relationship between Peg and Neculai, alongside their daily struggles as a pair consisting of a mortal human and an emotionless vampire.
But don’t be fooled by the simplicity you might experience when first looking at her comics. Once you get into them, you will see that there is a lot going on behind them and you won’t be able to stop reading them! The characters are complex, smart, sarcastic, funny, and rational – all qualities we find in ourselves (at times!).
It seems like Julia enjoys humanizing animals and other species and you can tell by her other Instagram profile where she posts drawings of animals leading regular, human lives, wearing humans’ clothes. Again, you can see her talent for art and creative writing.
Her fan base is getting larger and larger and she says that as long as people follow her, her inspiration is never ending and she will continue to entertain us with the complex relationship of a modern-day Twilight story and the adorable hat-wearing animals.

]]>Bassoli is a webcomic artist from Italy whose Instagram account has over 42k supportive followers. She creates amusing comics in which the main character is a girl with sky-blue hair named Bibi.
Bibi lives with her pet dog Tex and a big hairy wolf that represents her bad feelings and fears.
The latter, Scotos, usually just sits on the couch and reads books. He’s jealous of Tex and doesn’t like Bibi and him having a pet dog, so they often get into fights over his behavior towards Tex.
There are some other interesting characters showing up in the story, such as Bibi’s mom and her best friends.
Bibi thinks of herself as sometimes weird and socially inadequate, but many of her stories showcase the importance of having close and accepting friends and family members. In her comics she also sometimes deals with important social issues, such as irresponsible driving, and has a very creative way of sending important messages.

]]>The story of the artist itself is pretty interesting as well. Zach had always had low grades, because rather than paying attention in class, he had been doodling in the margins. After completing his degree in music, he realized that “music is stupid” and that he “is bad at it.” He reached a point in his life where he was buried in student debt, and felt unequipped to do anything with his life. So, what did he do? Well, he realized that maybe his stupid passion for doodling comics was his actual passion, and so he began publishing his work. Zach says that he is learning every day, and finds that being open to criticism has helped him significantly learn, grow, and improve his work.
