Brock DeBoer is an American artist who mainly works in ceramics. However, you won’t see DeBoer making plates and vessels. Instead, he creates astonishing porcelain sculptures inspired by everyday life.

DeBoer recreates everyday objects and items from pop culture, including cowboy boots, sneakers, basketballs, coolers, and much more.

According to DeBoer, he uses his “extensive knowledge of ceramic materials and processes” to bring his sculptures “a new life becoming heirlooms of the 21st century.

“By using classical motifs of cobalt patterns and true to life finishes DeBoer’s casts become suspended somewhere in the past and disguised in the present,” it states on his website.

DeBoer was born in South Dakota and currently resides in Los Angeles, California. The artist says that his Midwestern upbringing and the “ever-changing and vastly diverse landscape” of Los Angeles serve as a major influence on his work.

DeBoer received his Bachelor of Fine Arts-Ceramics degree at Kansas City Art Institute. His works have been exhibited across the United States in solo and group exhibitions while being featured in several high-profile publications like Create! Magazine and Fete Chinoise Magazine.

With more than 15 years of experience, Mei Kawajiri is much more than a manicurist—she’s a full-blown nail artist. Originally from Kyoto, Japan, she started out as a tattoo artist but transferred to nails after realizing permanent tattoos were too much of a commitment.

Now, she’s considered NYC’s most sought after nail artist, with clients as big as Gigi and Bella Hadid, as well as Ariana Grande. And with big names comes a big fashion statement. “I love drama,” said Kawajiri in an interview with WWD.

According to her, the biggest difference between Japanese and American nail art is that Japanese designs are “more abstract,” whereas her American clients “love to have a theme.” “Even 10 years ago, [Japan was] doing what we are doing in New York: big stones, crazy charms,” she explained. “Young girls save money for their nails instead of eating a lot of food. They wanna be skinny and they wanna have cool nail art.”

Her inspiration comes from the world around her, but she admits she tries no to be too influenced by other nail gurus. “As long as I don’t copy or I don’t watch other people’s Instagram, I’m good,” she stated. “I don’t watch nail Instagrams at all. If you see [something] one time, you have the idea already on the inside of your head. I don’t wanna be like that. I wanna be always original and new.”

Here are some of her fresh designs.

Cornelius Washington is a talented art director, designer, and illustrator who creates “fun things from ideas he finds around.” Better known as Hank Washington on social media, he has been working for over ten years in the field and has done projects with small and large brands creating identities, illustrations, animation, and creative direction.

On his Instagram account, he posts images of his creations called Fuzzies. There, he has gained over 10,000 followers. Born and raised in Mississippi, Washington transforms celebrities and other random people into adorable characters. Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, Yeezy, and more, are just some of the famous people you can find in his gallery.

He starts his project by researching the image he wants to reproduce. Then he does a sketch in Photoshop. Next, he adds the base colors and lastly “fuzzes the image up.” We must admit—the final product is really amazing!

For quite some time, he has been pushing himself with animation as well, and he’s getting better and better with it.

By pressing flowers, we are able to preserve their beauty and admire them for longer. One couple from Denver, Colorado, decided to take this traditional technique and give it a modern spin by creating beautiful pressed flower art.

During the pandemic, Rachel Parri and Keith Kralik found themselves spending much time in their garden. They grew some beautiful flowers as a result and came to the idea to start pressing them and placing them in frames.

Being satisfied with the way their pressed flower artworks turned out, Parri and Kralik continued making more and sharing them on social media. They also started Flower Press Studio, through which people can purchase their works.

“Flower Press Studio allows us to get outside in the garden and get more involved with a local community of makers, florists, and flower farmers to express our authenticity using organic materials grown from our mother earth,” the couple shares on their website.

Flower Press Studio recently started expanding its business in order to offer people more ways to enjoy their pressed flower art. They are developing online courses in order to share their knowledge with others while also creating limited prints of the artworks. Continue scrolling to see more of them.

If you’re a firm believer that Paddington is a cinematic masterpiece and wish he would pop up in other movies and TV shows—you’re not alone. Guided by this idea, Jay the Chou started a viral Twitter page where he’s Photoshopping the beloved British bear into some of the most iconic movie scenes of all time.

When he first embarked on this journey about two years ago, Jay pledged he’ll Photoshop Paddington into a movie, game, or TV show until he forgets, and he’s still going strong. 700 days later, he’s still sharing a new photo with the world almost every day, and he attracted over 330,000 followers to his Twitter page @jaythechou.

If you’re looking at his Twitter page and wondering “Why Paddington?”, that’s pretty easy to explain. First of all, it’s a freaking amazing movie and its sequel is even better—it even held 100% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, beating Citizen Kane!

The second reason is that similar Photoshopped images of Paddington already found success following the release of the first movie. Creepy Paddington memes were all the rage back in 2014, with people Photoshopping our favorite bear into iconic horror movies. Jay the Chou simply decided to branch out and not be limited by a genre, putting Paddington in every movie and TV show that comes to mind.

Mohsen Heydari Yeganeh from creative studio Kasmeh isn’t letting scrap metal, discarded tools, and rejected fabric go to waste. Instead, he is transforming them into impressive scrap sculptures.

Yeganeh scours the streets, repair works, and antique shops to find the material he could use for his unique creations. He also relies on the support of family and friends, who supply him with the tools and items they don’t need anymore, like broken scissors, handles, and wires.

After taking the items in his small workshop, Yeganeh proceeds to combine them into familiar shapes of animals and birds. For example, one of his works has a pair of scissors serving as a bird’s beak while a coil of wire dubs as its head. He completes the creation with a colorful fabric sack and more wire.

Yeganeh has earned himself quite a lot of fans and admirers. His works have been shared by various online magazines while being shared countless times on social media. The Instagram page of Kasmeh alone has more than 60,000 followers, with the number continuously on the rise.

Sharpening a pencil never stops to be a fun activity. There is something strangely fascinating in watching pencil shavings coming out of the sharpener and creating all sorts of intriguing shapes. This is exactly what inspired Japanese designer Nanako Kume for her series of cool lamps called Sharpener.

These lamps have their shades made out of giant pencil shavings. For real. Kume crafts giant pencils and then uses a giant sharpener to get the shavings. As you can imagine, the results are quite impressive.

According to Kume, she was fascinated “by the shape and fleetingness” of pencil shavings since childhood. When she got older and started her career as a designer, she wanted to incorporate those shapes and fleetingness in her works.

“I thought that by increasing the size and thickness of what must be discarded as waste, it would be possible to create new products while maintaining the beauty of the shape,” she explained.

Kume’s lamps are currently in the experimental phase, but that won’t be the case for too long. After getting much attention on the internet and from festivals, the designer intends to make them available for purchase soon. Until then, check out some of her designs below.

Star Wars-inspired pastry and baking goods are nothing new. You’ve probably had a slice of Millennium Falcon cake or an R2-D2-shaped cookie at one point in your life. However, bread sculptures of Star Wars characters are something we don’t have a chance to see every day.

California-based One House Bakery recently presented a unique bread sculpture of Star Wars’ Han Solo. Named “Pan Solo” and created by mom and daughter baker duo Catherine and Hannalee Pervan, the sculpture captures The Empire Strikes Back scene in which Han Solo is frozen in carbonite.

According to Catherine and Hannalee, they used wood as a base for the piece and two types of dough in order to capture all the details and make the bread last longer. The duo needed weeks to get the sculpture done, and it became a passion project for them.

“Mom made me leave it because I was obsessing over the lips,” Hannalee shared with the New York Times. “She was like, ‘You need to walk away.’ “

The hard work definitely paid off, as the sculpture caught the attention of Star Wars fans and helped One House Bakery to attract more business. Pan Solo is currently displayed in front of the bakery, where everyone can check it out while waiting on their bagels. It is also competing in the annual Scarecrow Contest organized by Catherine and Hannalee’s hometown of Benicia.

Danielle Currie is a Canadian artist who has a unique approach to embroidery. Instead of opting for usual subjects like animals or landscapes, Currie creates handmade embroidery pieces inspired by satellite imagery.

In her intriguing works, Currie manages to stitch the Earth’s oceans and terrains in the way satellite captures them. She meticulously recreates mesmerizing patterns and colors created by nature, managing to seize all the important details despite using such a demanding technique.

Currie, who has a daily job as a government environmental project officer in New Brunswick, Canada, says she was inspired to start this project by her love for oceans and appreciation for satellite imagery.

“I love the ocean. I grew up on the east coast of Canada, and going to the beach was one of my favorite things to do,” Currie said in a recent interview. “I enjoy looking at satellite imagery and maps. The patterns and colors captured from that vantage point are stunning, especially images of movement patterns of biological processes.”

Currie shares her works on her Instagram page, fittingly named @satellite_stitches. Each embroidery piece inspired by satellite imagery also contains coordinates of the location, allowing viewers to compare the two. Check out more of her impressive works below.

Crusoe the miniature dachshund proves the case that bigger isn’t always better. In fact, it’s Crusoe’s miniature posture that has won him a massive following online (mainly on Instagram and YouTube). Having also won a People’s Choice Award in 2018 for “Animal Star”, trust us when we say that the hype is real, and well deserved.

“Although we give a voice to Crusoe, we feel that the personality you see online is a reflection of his real personality,” says his owner Ryan Beauchesne in an interview with Dogster.

“He loves adventure and exploring new places, and for a small dog, he’s very brave. He loves to play and squeak from morning till midnight, but is also not very cuddly or kissable (hence his tough-guy image online).”

Indeed, the miniature black and tan dachshund is keen on adventure and has traveled the world (at least when travel was possible), both locally and internationally, to places like the Bahamas, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Mexico.

His photos and videos often see him sporting some miniature (and often hilarious) costumes. In one video he’s seen as a brave ghostbuster, while in another (more lo-fi production) he’s simply running around in a Mickey Mouse costume. It’s this kind of top-notch content that has amassed him over 800,000 fans on Instagram and almost two million subscribers on YouTube.

But at least according to Beauchesne, the love for Crusoe goes further than his celebrity status, and has to do with his charming personality. “Sometimes, I wonder if Crusoe is actually a special dog or if it’s just this online character we’ve built that makes him seem special,” admitted Beauchesne.

“But people—even those who do not know he’s a celebrity—comment over and over how handsome he is or how human-like he is. So I think there is something different about him. He was meant to be a celebrity.”
