]]>The tiles are made with ‘wood wool’ – wood fiber mixed with cement in proportions that improve the acoustics of the room while absorbing environmental noise at the same time. The factories of the company get their main raw material, the wood fiber, from a Swedish family company that has been manufacturing this material for many generations.
This material is already used for packaging, insulation and even stuffing toys, but this Swedish company has been able to give it a new use that many were waiting for. Thanks to the hexagonal shape of the tiles, they can be stacked in a simple way and become an amazing decoration for any wall.

]]>Miniwiz is a company in Taiwan founded by architect and structural engineers Arthur Huang and Jarvis Liu. Huang and Liu founded Miniwiz back in 2005 and ever since then they’ve been trying to be as eco-friendly as possible, but also create something that is long lasting and sustainable.
One of their projects is the Trashpresso, a machine that creates tiles from plastic waste. This machine is the first step towards their recycling solution. The process of creating tiles is divided in five different stages. First the plastic is shredded, washed, then it’s air-dried and dehumidified; and lastly, it’s baked into molds. The tiles are water resistant and long lasting, so they can be used on different surfaces.
The Trashpresso is a step forward to re-using plastic in a safe way and creating sustainable long lasting materials.

]]>Pat Smith, which also goes by the nickname “Action Nan”, is the local hero we all need. This enthusiastic nanny has set her mission – to make the beaches as clean as possible and to reduce plastic use as much as possible, starting with her town, Cornwall. After watching a shaky documentary about plastic and nature, this Action Nan had decided to make a change, starting with herself. She launched “The Final Straw” in 2017 to try to raise awareness of the damage that we are all doing to our oceans and to reach more people and find volunteers to work together. Since then, this unstoppable grandma has associated with lot of organizations and includes her own grandchildren in her actions.
Her last years’ resolution was to clean beaches, and by now, she has managed to clean 52 beaches in Cornwall! We hope to see more people that will follow her footsteps!

]]>Most recently, Rimping, a supermarket chain located in Chiang Mai, Thailand, has gone viral after sharing photos of fresh produce wrapped in discarded banana leaves instead of plastic wrap. “As part of our initiative to become a green grocer, we have rolled out measures to reduce the use of plastic since last year,” said the supermarket’s marketing manager Atitarn Srisa-nga.
The use of banana leaves for packaging vegetables is a great way to reduce single-use plastic in this country: the leaves are large, thick and supple enough to be adequately folded, they are 100% biodegradable, and they are readily available in tropical locations.
Although banana leaves can’t be used to replace all plastic packages for grocery items, little steps make a big difference. If all countries who have an abundance of banana leaves adopt this method, it might come to really mean something. And most importantly, it should serve as an inspiration for creating similar solutions in other parts of the world.

]]>In this short CGI animation, we follow two entrepreneurial penguins as they find a treasure in the Arctic: crates upon crates of… red hot chili peppers! And with the Arctic being so cold, the hot peppers become a precious commodity.
As the penguins hand them out to their friends – for a price – the holes the peppers burn through the ice sheets grow larger, and cause an unexpected problem.
Is this a parable for real-life events? You be the judge – but one thing that isn’t debatable is that the animation is gorgeous, quirky – and really, really funny.
